Organic Center Names Interim Exec Director

BOULDER, Colo. - Nonprofit organization The Organic Center said yesterday it has named Steven Hoffman interim c.e.o., to replace chief executive R. Mark Davis, who has resigned effective May 1.

Hoffman will serve as interim executive director for The Organic Center until a search for a new executive director is complete, the organization said, adding that. Davis is leaving "to pursue other opportunities."

The Organic Center was formed in 2002 with the mission to generate credible scientific research, proving the benefits of organics, and communicating those benefits to consumers.

Hoffman was part of the original task force team responsible for launching the nonprofit. He has been at the forefront of the LOHAS movement (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) since its inception, and has spearheaded many of its initiatives, including co-founding two leading industry business publications and conferences, the LOHAS Journal and Natural Business, the Center said in a statement.

Hoffman also serves on the board of directors of the Naturally Boulder Task Force to promote the growth of natural and organic products and is the former president of CORE, Colorado's leading sustainable business association. Hoffman is a former agricultural extension agent, former Peace Corps volunteer and received an M.S. degree in agriculture from Pennsylvania State University.

The board of directors of The Organic Center includes two grocery executives: Walter Robb, co-president and chief operating officer of Whole Foods Market; and James D. White, s.v.p., consumer brands, Safeway, Inc.

The Organic Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that generates peer reviewed scientific information and communicates the verifiable benefits of organic farming and products to society.
