Planet Organic Acquires Second Store in Edmonton, Alta.
CALGARY, Alta. -- Canadian natural and organic retailer Planet Organic Health Corp. will acquire The Big Fresh, a 5,000-square-foot natural food market in Edmonton, Alta. through its Planet Organic Markets division.
"The good news for The Big Fresh shoppers is that we're going to increase the product selection with more fresh, 100 percent certified organic produce and a new deli featuring our delicious grab-and-go selections." said Mark Craft, co-founder and president of Planet Organic Markets. "We'll also give shoppers easy access to Planet Organic's high-quality organic groceries and all-natural supplements, including body care goods."
This will be the second Planet Organic Market in Edmonton. Planet Organic's existing Edmonton supermarket has demonstrated superior growth and profitability over the past two years, according to the retailer.
The acquisition is subject to final regulatory approval, and the retailer will disclose further details at closing.
Planet Organic recently acquired Healthy's Nutrition Centres, a seven-store health food chain in Toronto. Planet Organic Markets also began the construction of a new store in Port Credit, Ont. and is planning the October opening of its second market location in Calgary, Alta.
Planet Organic currently operates natural food supermarkets in Edmonton; Victoria, B.C.; Calgary, Port Coquitlam, B.C.; and Halifax, N.S.
