Planet Organic Now Largest Natural Food Retailer in Canada
EDMONTON, Atla. -- The eighth Planet Organic stores to open, which is also its second in Calgary, Alta. and its fourth in the province, has made the company the largest natural foods retailer in Canada, according to Planet Organic.
President Mark Craft attended the Oct. 5 opening of the newest store, where he spent the day packing groceries, helping shoppers to their cars, and stocking shelves. "Getting involved helps to remind me what our business is all about," noted Craft. "And it makes me appreciate our great staff in Calgary."

The 10,000-square-foot store, which, in common with all Planet Organic Markets, carries organic groceries, all-natural supplements, and 100 percent organic produce, set an opening-day sales record for the company. The location additionally offers fresh deli food prepared in the Planet Organic kitchen.
Craft said that he's currently focusing on completing the new Planet Organic Market in Port Credit, Ont., and remodeling the grocer's second store in Edmonton, Alta., the purchase of which was announced last month.
Planet Organic's eight stores are in Calgary; Edmonton; Victoria, B.C.; Port Coquitlam, B.C.; and Halifax, N.S.
Planet Organic Health Corp., a natural products industry company comprising manufacturing, distribution, and retail, also operates 47 natural health outlets under the Sangster's Health Centre banner. Another POHC company, Trophic Canada, is the country's top maker of natural supplements.
