ShopRite Marks Conn. Store Openings With Community Events

ShopRite is celebrating the opening of new stores in West Hartford and East Hartford, Conn., this week with a community breakfast and lunch affording a sneak peek of the locations before their official debuts.

Chuck and Debbie Joseph, the owners and operators of the store opening June 27 in West Hartford, will hold a community breakfast on Thursday, June 24 at 8:30 a.m. in the new location, which occupies over 71,000 square feet at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Kane Street, employs over 200 associates and boasts such sustainable features as energy-efficient lighting, a state-of-the-art refrigeration system, a storewide recycling and composting program and shopping baskets made from recycled materials. The West Hartford store is the Josephs’ second ShopRite store; their first opened in Canton, Conn., a few weeks ago. The couple, who operate Joseph Family Markets, recently moved to West Hartford to better serve their newest customers.

On June 25 at noon, the Cohen family — Rich and Kye Cohen and two of their four children, Jordan Coe and Alex Cohen — will host a community luncheon in their new ShopRite store, operated through the family’s Waverly Markets of East Hartford, LLC business, on East Hartford’s Main Street in the Putnam Bridge Plaza, on the East Hartford/Glastonbury line. The over 60,000-squaare-foot store, which officially opens June 27, includes such offerings as a pharmacy, a Fresh Bake Shop, seafood delivered daily, a full-service meat department, a full-service floral shop, prepared and hot foods, an olive bar, sushi and a large variety of natural and organic products. The Cohens also own and operate another location in East Hartford, known as the ShopRite of Manchester. Mrs. Cohen was born on Silver Lane in East Hartford.

Also opening in Connecticut are the over 50,000-square-foot ShopRite of Clinton, owned by the Capano family of Five Star Supermarkets, and the ShopRite of Wallingford, a completely renovated over 63,000-square-foot site owned Donald Drust and the Drust family. Both stores, which feature cutting-edge green technologies and a wide array of amenities, will make their debuts on June 23 with ribbon-cutting ceremonies attended by local civic and community leaders.
