Sunflower Farmers Market Operating Signature Organic Farm

Boulder, Colo.-based natural and organic foods retailer Sunflower Farmers Market will soon begin sourcing some of its produce from its very own local organic farm.

According to published reports, the retailer operates a 40-acre farm southwest of Longmont that will supply approximately 5 percent of its produce. The first crops were planted this year on a 2-acre section of the farm. Next year, it will expand to 12 acres plus a 4,000-square-foot greenhouse powered by wind and solar energy.

In addition, Sunflower will use the farm to increase customer awareness of organic production and with educational tours and workshops on organic farming and sustainability.

Crops harvested this year include arugula, bok choy, cabbage, collard greens, peppers, radishes, squash, turnips, and various lettuces, reports said.
