Trader Joe's Eyeing Atlanta: Reports

MONTROVIA, Calif. -- Trader Joe's, the quirky limited assortment food retailer based here, is reportedly scouting for future sites in metro Atlanta, which would be the southernmost market yet for the chain.

Trader Joe's reach at present extends only as far south as Virginia. Other regions the retailer has entered include several Northeastern and New England states, the central Midwest, the Pacific Northwest, and the Southwest.

According to a report in the Atlanta Business Journal, Chuck Evans, s.v.p. of The Trilogy Group LLC in Atlanta, said his company is handling site selection for Trader Joe's. A publicity manager for Trader Joe's confirmed that the company is planning to enter metro Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Business Journal.

In Atlanta, Trader Joe's would join market leaders Wal-Mart, Kroger, and Publix, as well as Whole Foods, which has seven stores in the Atlanta metro area; and Greensboro, N.C.-based The Fresh Market Inc., which is growing its Atlanta presence. Asheville, N.C-based organic grocer Earth Fare is reportedly scouting sites in Atlanta.
