Wal-Mart Parties for its 2000th Supercenter

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart's going to California to celebrate the opening of its newest supercenter with a concert, and everyone's invited. Pop artist Ryan Cabrera will perform live on Saturday, March 18 at 4 p.m. from the parking lot of what will be the chain's 2000th supercenter in Beaumont, Calif.

"We really wanted to surprise the community with a powerhouse event as our way of saying, 'Thank you, California, for helping us grow,'" said Henry Jordan, regional general manager, in a statement. "It's a big way for us to give back to the community and show customers, associates, and partners how grateful we are for their support."

Located in Beaumont, 80 miles east of Los Angeles, the new mega-store will be Wal-Mart's fourteenth in California. With its more than 116,000 general merchandise and grocery products, the new store boasts many of the latest merchandise features coming to Wal-Mart supercenters this year: wider aisles, an expanded selection of organic food items, home trends displays, concrete and hardwood floors throughout, and an extensive electronics section showcasing the latest in computers, iPod, and hi-definition televisions.

Saturday's event will feature a silent auction of celebrity-autographed giveaways, including signed guitars from Jo Dee Messina, Alabama, and George Strait, among others. All proceeds will go to America's Second Harvest food bank.

The store opens for business on March 22.
