Wedge Co-op Named One of Twin Cities’ Top Workplaces
The Wedge Co-op, a Minneapolis-based natural food co-op with 14,000 members, is one of the top workplaces in the Twin Cities, based on an employee-based survey by the Minneapolis Star Tribune this month.
The Wedge ranked 28th on the daily newspaper’s top midsized company list, which is available at www.StarTribune.com/topworkplaces.
“When we began in 1974, our employees were a determined group of neighbors who donated their time to provide a lasting source of sustainable food for health and environmentally conscious consumers,” said Lindy Bannister, Wedge Co-op general manager. “That founding principle remains; our staff works here because they are passionate about natural and organic products, and advocates for a vibrant local food economy.”
The Star Tribune’s Top Workplaces recognizes the most progressive companies based on employee opinions about company leadership, career opportunities, workplace flexibility, compensation and benefits. The analysis included responses from more than 33,000 employees at Minnesota public, private and nonprofit organizations.
This recognition underscores the Wedge Co-op’s 35-year commitment not only to serving as a cooperative connection among the community, farmers, food producers and distributors, and other co-ops within the region, but also to providing extensive training, discounts, profit sharing, competitive wages and benefits and a nurturing environment for its 262 employees.
Founded in 1974, the Wedge has grown to become one of the largest single-store, consumer-owned, natural-food cooperatives in the United States.
