Weis Debuts New Superstore In Mifflintown, Pa.

SUNBURY, Pa. -- Weis Markets here debuted a state-of-the-art superstore in Mifflintown, PA over the weekend. The new location, which includes an eight-pump gas station and pharmacy, replaces an existing 30,000-square-foot unit on an adjoining site.

The Mifflintown store is the chain's second store opening in 2006, following on the heels of a March 25 opening of a new unit in Ranson, W.V.

"We expect this to be an excellent store for Mifflintown and the surrounding communities," said Jonathan H. Weis, Weis Markets' vice chairman. "It is significantly larger than the unit it replaces and offers more variety, larger perishable departments and improved convenience."

Among the store's features are:
--A larger produce department offering a wider selection of organic produce.
--A deli with an express register, a pizza kitchen and a sit-down café, as well as a wide selection of deli meats and cheeses, prepared salads, takeout and heat-and-serve meals.
--A full-time pharmacy with a consultation area and off-hour drop-off for prescription refills.
-- A large grocery department with a wider selection of specialty, organic and natural products in frozen, dairy and dry grocery categories.
-- A larger meat department with more selection and variety.
-- A full-service seafood department with a lobster tank.
-- Twelve checkout lanes including four self-scan units.

Weis Markets operates 158 stores in five states in addition to operating SuperPetz, a pet supply superstore chain with 31 locations in ten states.
