Whole Foods to Build Largest Chicago Store Yet

AUSTIN, Texas -- Leading organic and natural foods retailer Whole Foods, based here, is gearing up for its biggest store yet in Chicago's South Loop, according to published reports.

Whole Foods, which currently operates three stores in Chicago, said the new store, which will measure 55,000 square feet, will anchor the new Southgate Market mall, a five-level mall including many specialty retail stores. Whole Foods expects the store to open in early 2007.

The store will have larger selections of produce and prepared foods, as well as more specialty areas, including an olive bar, a Whole Foods spokesman told reporters during a ceremony celebrating the mall's construction.

Additionally, two 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods stores are slated to open in Chicago in 2006.
