Whole Foods Doubles Size of So. Cal. Produce Distribution Center

LOS ANGELES – Whole Foods Market has signed a 10-year lease for a 93,558-square-foot warehouse and cold storage facility in Vernon, Calif. that will double the size of its Southern California produce distribution center.

The Austin, Texas-based natural and organic food retailer will use the entire building at 2307 East 49th St. The 162-store retailer will relocate from its existing 41,500-square-foot distribution building located at nearby 2145 East 49th St.

Constructed in 1995, the new facility is more than twice the size of the retailer's current Southern California produce depot and features nearly 35,000 square feet of refrigerated cooler space, according to John McMillan, senior director of Cushman & Wakefield, one of the world's largest privately held real estate services. Lead broker Patrick Gilhooly, principal of the Clover Co., represented Whole Foods in the commercial real estate transaction.

The Southern California produce distribution warehouse serves 23 Whole Foods stores in Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada.
