Wild Oats Inks Deal With VeriCenter To Position For Faster Growth

HOUSTON -- Aiming to facilitate an aggressive store expansion in the next two years and a utility computing migration strategy, Wild Oats Markets, Inc. has upgraded its core information technology activities, outsourcing the project to VeriCenter.

The nation's second largest natural and organic foods retailer selected the VeriCenter after a competitive evaluation of 25 providers, to provide enterprise hosting, security functions, data assurance and other managed services for the 18-year-old supermarket chain.

Wild Oats is aggressively planning for the company's next milestones, which include optimizing the inherent growth in the natural and organic products industry by doubling the number of stores nationwide through new store development. The chain has also outgrown its own data center and realized the need to either build a new facility or outsource the majority of its IT functions.

"Outsourcing core IT functions has freed up our IT professionals to focus on maximizing IT performance, regulatory compliance and business growth," said Jon Payne, Wild Oats' v.p. of information technology, in a statement. VeriCenter will act as an extension to Wild Oats IT team and handle daily tasks and maintenance with flexible, cost-controlled IT solutions that will easily scale with Wild Oats' growth.
