Wild Oats Joins Decade-Long Forest Restoration Effort

BOULDER, Colo. -- Natural and organic foods retailer Wild Oats Markets, Inc. will participate in The Eco-Project 2015, a decade-long conservation program to restore American forests and protect U.S. working farms and ranches.

The Eco-Project 2015 was created earlier this year when natural meat marketer Coleman Natural Foods teamed up with the U.S. Forest Service and two conservation non-profit organizations: American Forests (AF) and American Farmland Trust (AFT). At the launch, Coleman committed to plant one million trees and offered a challenge to companies and individual citizens to help plant nine million more trees. As a primary partner, the U.S. Forest Service will match each tree planted by Coleman, its retailers, and customers for a total of 20 million trees planted over 10 years.

Wild Oats stores throughout the country will display a tear pad with a UPC code that permits customers to make a one, five or ten dollar contribution to the Coleman Eco-Project 2015 at each store checkout. A corresponding number of trees will be planted for each dollar contribution made to the challenge. A Coleman product purchase is not required, and Coleman contributions to the project are not contingent on sales.

"Wild Oats Markets is known for its community and environmental involvement initiatives, and we look forward to supporting the Coleman Eco-Project 2015 with our customers," said Perry Odak, president and c.e.o. "Coleman is dedicated to preserving the environment and promoting education and training programs to protect our working farms and ranches."

"We've undertaken our land-based eco-system program to improve and preserve the precious environment," said Coleman Chairman Mel Coleman, Jr. "This challenge is on behalf of today's generation of Americans and for many more generations to come."
