Wild Oats Names Robert Miller Nonexecutive Chairman

BOULDER, Colo. - Natural and organic foods retailer Wild Oats Markets, Inc. said Tuesday that Robert Miller was elected nonexecutive chairman of the company's board of directors.

Miller is a 40-year veteran of the retail industry who currently serves as nonexecutive chairman of the Board of Rite Aid Corp. He also served as RiteAid's c.e.o. from December 1999 to June 2003. Before that, he was vice chairman and c.e.o. of the Kroger Co. He came to Kroger in 1999, after the grocer acquired Fred Meyer, Inc., where he had served as c.e.o. since 1991. Miller began his career in the grocery industry at Albertsons, Inc., where he spent 30 years in several senior management positions.

Miller succeeds John Shields as chairman of the board of Wild Oats. Although Shields decided to step down as chairman earlier this year, he continues to serve as a director on the board.

Wild Oats currently operates 108 stores in 24 states and the Canadian province of British Columbia. The retailer's banners include Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, Henry's Marketplace, Sun Harvest and Capers Community Markets.
