Rice Epicurean Plans Multimillion-Dollar Remodel of West University Store

Rice Epicurean Markets is planning a multimillion-dollar remodel of the store located in the West University/Medical Center at Kirby in the company’s headquarters city of Houston.

The remodel will increase the size and location of the fresh food departments, employing what the retailer is calling a dramatic new layout. The meat and seafood, chef-prepared foods, fresh bakery, and fine wine departments will be enlarged and renovated as well, and the store’s interior and exterior will be completely overhauled.

The design, created by Hermes Architects in Houston, is an attempt to integrate the dynamic “West University and Medical Center” spirit into a new shopping experience. Construction is slated to begin next month and be completed in early August, and the store will be closed during the construction. Houston-based U.S. Builders is serving as the general contractor for the renovation.

Rice Epicurean operates five upscale markets, all in Houston.
