Ring Bros.' CIA-Trained Chef to Teach Thanksgiving Cooking

SOUTH DENNIS, Mass. -- Community-based independent Ring Bros. Marketplace will host a free cooking class next weekend for first-timers and seasoned veterans alike to learn how best to prepare Thanksgiving dinner.

The four-hour class will cover everything from cleaning and stuffing a turkey to making a Pumpkin Brûlé Tart. The instuctor is Ring Bros. Marketplace’s general manager and resident chef Don Fallon.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Fallon understands how daunting preparing the biggest meal of the year can be. “I still remember my first Thanksgiving dinner, and how terrified I was at the thought of messing something up,” Fallon said.

The class will focus not only on time-tested recipes, but also on what to do when things start to go wrong. “I don’t think I have ever done a Thanksgiving without some sort of glitch, the trick is knowing how to fix certain problems and gloss over others,” Fallon explained.

The menu for the class will consist of a mix of traditional and modern favorites:
- Roast turkey with sausage stuffing and pan gravy
- Rustic mashed potatoes with roasted garlic
- Sautéed green beans with caramelized onion and bacon
- Honey and orange candied sweet potatoes
- Spiced pureed butternut squash
- Mashed rutabagas
- Cape Cod cranberry sauce
- Pumpkin brûlé tart with toasted pecan crust

Ring Bros.’s format actually consists of six independently owned businesses in the store: Ring Bros. Markets which specializes in fresh produce, dairy, and grocery products; Harney’s Liquors which provides one of the largest selections of wines, craft brews, and top shelf liquors on Cape Cod; Dark Horse Beef and Deli offering all natural beef, chicken, cheese, and deli products; Spinner’s Pizza & Burrito prepares fresh gourmet pizzas, burritos, take home meals, and homemade desserts; Chatham Fish & Lobster with fresh fish, shellfish, and lobster; Nata’s Noodles which, together with Montilio’s Express round out the marketplace with desserts, freshly made pasta, and prepared gourmet foods.
