New England independent grocer Roche Bros. plans to open a small-concept store called Brothers Marketplace next year.
The 9,000-square-foot unit will be located in the former Lord's Department store in downtown Medfield, Mass. It will specialize in artisanal products and prepared foods, and will include a lunch counter, as well as a grab-and-go section of prepared foods.
Roche Bros., based in Wellesley, Mass., is hoping to have all town permits approved by the first of the year, enabling the retailer to open the store in the spring of 2014.
The company operates 18 stores, including three Sudbury Farms locations, and is also planning to build a 30,000-square-foot grocery store in a former Filene's department store location in downtown Boston.
