In a bid to reduce inventory levels while concurrently reducing out-of-stocks, Roundy’s Supermarkets is implementing SofTechnics’ inventory management solution chainwide. The Milwaukee-based retailer has selected a centralized deployment of SofTechnics’ SoftGrocer’s software, data and business rules, which will reside at its corporate headquarters, while the information is made available to store associates via in-store workstations and mobile devices, and tight integration with other in-store and corporate systems.
Consisting of receiving, ordering, and location-based inventory modules, SoftGrocer’s inventory management solution is integrated to streamline the physical count and back-room picking processes to ensure perpetual balances are verified and accurate while auto-updating perpetual balances from routine store operations such as receiving, transfers, adjustments and POS transactions.
Roundy’s officials say the new system has resulted in better back-room inventory management, reduced store inventory, and reduced out-of-stocks in light of real-time inventory management information, which has provided savings in each Roundy’s store where SoftGrocer is deployed. “Implementing SoftGrocer helped us reduce our item out-of-stocks,” said John Boyle, Roundy’s CIO. “At the same time, we were also able to reduce back-room and overall store inventory levels without impacting product availability, which creates an immediate cost savings for our stores.”
Roundy’s operates 154 retail grocery stores under the Pick ’n Save, Copps, Rainbow and Metro Market banners in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
