Safeway and Vons to Donate $750,000 in SoCal Fire Assistance

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway, Inc. and its Southern California-based Vons division yesterday shared more specifics about how they're helping areas devastated by the Southern California wildfires. The Safeway Foundation is pledging a $500,000 cash donation to support local emergency organizations spearheading relief efforts for communities devastated most by the fires.

Already, Safeway and Vons have provided 16 truckloads filled with $250,000 worth of food, water, diapers, infant formula, and other supplies to emergency and evacuation centers. Additionally, the company said all 300 Vons and Pavilions stores will serve as collection points for customers who want to make a donation in support of local relief efforts.

The Safeway and Vons Foundations will donate 100 percent of all customer donations to local organizations coordinating emergency relief efforts and providing support for families and communities affected by the fires.
