Safeway Pharmacies Filling Scrips for Hurricane Ike Evacuees

To help residents forced from their homes and communities by Hurricane Ike, Safeway Inc. said it Randalls and Tom Thumb stores have been reminding evacuees that they can fill prescriptions at any of the chains' pharmacies outside of the storm-affected areas of Texas, or at any pharmacy store in the U.S. operated by Safeway.

The multibannered grocer is a member of ICERx.org (In Case of Emergency Prescriptions), a secure online network available to pharmacists and physicians during times of national emergency. Through the ICERx.org integrated pharmacy record system, all 1,130 Safeway-operated pharmacies in the U.S. are able to fill prescriptions for all evacuees, regardless of whether an individual evacuee had previously used a Safeway pharmacy.
