Save Mart to Deploy Automated Medication Therapy Management System

Regional independent Save Mart Supermarkets plans to deploy a Web-based clinical application for the delivery of medication therapy management services as an integral part of Modesto, Calif.-based grocer’s employee health-and-wellness initiative.

Save Mart is working with Reston, Va.-based Mirixa Corp.’s MirixaEdge solution. The grocer said its employees will benefit from having medication therapy management services available to them, as such services encourage adherence to prescribed medication regimens, check for appropriate use of medications, ensure patient safety and provide educational information about the medications the employee is taking. The system creates a patient medication record that can be shared with family members, physicians and other health care providers, as identified by the patient.

MirixaEdge will be deployed to Save Mart’s 115 in-store pharmacies. “Our company believes that our employees are a vital company asset and their well-being is of paramount importance,” said Michele Snider, executive director of pharmacy at Save Mart. “We want to empower our employees and actively engage them in the management of their health and wellness. MirixaEdge will enable our pharmacists to consult directly with employees and to help them to understand why they are prescribed specific medications and why they should take the medications as prescribed.”

In addition to medication therapy management, MirixaEdge includes patient care program templates for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These templates are designed to help to guide the pharmacist through the data collection process for illnesses that typically involve multiple medications and co-existing conditions.

Save Mart, which operates 244 stores in California and Nevada, expects to begin using MirixaEdge next month.
