Save Mart, Lucky Supermarkets Give Customers Shot at $2 Million

Save Mart Supermarkets is giving customers at its Lucky and Save Mart banners the chance to dribble away with $2 million with a newly-launched College Basketball Madness contest.

The online college bracket prediction contest, which is being administered by Dallas-based SCAinteractive, is an interactive promotion designed to build the Modesto, Calif.-based grocer's email database while enabling participating consumers a chance to win a huge prize.

"This promotion enables us to offer our customers the chance to win a huge, life-changing money prize," said John Kelly, v.p. of marketing for Save Mart. "It also gives us the opportunity to connect with our customers through a fun, interactive experience that is tied to one of the most-watched sports events around, while building an email database."

To play in the college basketball prediction contest, consumers register on the Save Mart or Lucky Web sites (www.luckysupermarkets.com or www.savemart.com) through March 20, and select their tournament picks. A $1 million prize will be awarded to any customer who has a perfect bracket selection. Contestants also have the chance to win a $1 million bonus prize tied to the championship game. In addition, gift certificates totaling $1,000 will be awarded to the top 10 finishers. Contestants can return to the online game sites during the tournament to see how their picks are fairing.

The promotion, which is open to legal residents of Northern California and Northern Nevada who are age 18 and older, is being advertised through store circulars and in-store POP displays. SCAinteractive, an online promotional services company that specializes in the development, security, administration, and hosting of contests, sweepstakes and games, is also handling the $2 million promotional risk coverage.

Save Mart operates 252 stores throughout Northern California under the banners of Save Mart, Lucky, S-Mart Foods, and Food Maxx
