Save Mart Names Steve Junqueiro COO

Save Mart Supermarkets yesterday appointed Steve Junqueiro chief operating officer of the chain, in the most prominent of a trio of promotions designed to fortify it management structure.

The chain also named Mike Silveira chief administrative officer; he had been s.v.p. of human resources and law. Steve Ackerman, v.p. of finance, earned the title of acting c.f.o.

"I have confidence in Steve Junqueiro's disciplined leadership and ability to communicate to all levels of the organization," said Save Mart chairman and c.e.o. Bob Piccinini of the highest-level promotion. "I am working very closely with the company's senior executive team to strengthen our leadership structure as we move towards the future."

Junqueiro, a veteran fresh foods merchant, has been with the company for 34 years. He worked his way up the organization from a start as a produce clerk, and still serves on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee.

At Save Mart, Junquiero will continue to lead operations, merchandising, marketing, strategic planning, and distribution.

Reporting to Junqueiro, Silveira will oversee all core support areas for the company, including human resources, information technology, and finance. Ackerman, reporting to Silveira, will assume all the financial and accounting responsibilities of Ron Riesenback, s.v.p. and c.f.o., who is retiring.

Modesto, Calif.-based Save Mart operates about 250 stores in Northern California and Northern Nevada, under the Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky, and FoodMaxx banners.
