Save Mart, Unified, Hire PR Firm led By Former CGA Prez

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Regional independent Save Mart Supermarkets and Western wholesaler Unified Grocers this week hired Larkin Public Affairs (LPA) to consult on their government and public relations efforts.

LPA, launched this week by former California Grocers Association president and c.e.o. Peter Larkin, was created to develop and implement strategic plans to position its food industry clients in a positive light with external stakeholders.

"Peter Larkin has a wealth of experience and a wide range of contacts within the business, political contacts within the business, political, and regulatory communities," said Alfred A Plamann, president and c.e.o. of Unified. "In addition, he's a smart, diligent, and highly-organized individual who understands what it takes for companies to succeed and prosper in today's competitive food industry marketplace."

LPA, based here, provides a range of consulting services including government relations, internal and external communications, community affairs, issues management and crisis management.

Prior to his role at the CGA, Larkin held executive positions with the Food Marketing Institute, The Kroger Co., The Tobacco Institute, Philip Morris USA, and U.S. Representative Donald J. Mitchell.

Save Mart Supermarkets, based in Modesto, Calif., operates 248 stores throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada under its namesake, Lucky, S-Mart Foods, and Food Maxx banners.

Los Angeles-based Unified supplies independent retailers throughout the Western United States, and generated approximately $3 billion in sales during fiscal 2006.
