Kurt S. Schertle, a former Shopper's Food and Pharmacy Executive, has joined Weis Markets as Vice President of Sales and Merchandising.
In this position, Schertle will oversee and direct all aspects of the company's marketing, merchandising and advertising for the company's center store, perishable and pharmacy departments. He will have direct management oversight of each of these areas. He will also oversee advertising, procurement/private label, pricing and marketing.
Schertle replaces Wayne Bailey who has become the company's Vice President of Operational Administration.
Schertle has more than 20 years of food retailing experience, mostly with Shoppers Food and Pharmacy, which currently operates 63 stores in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. During his career, he has worked as a Store Manager, Director of Pricing, Director of Non-Foods, Vice President, Grocery and as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Merchandising.
Prior to joining to the Company, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Tree Top Kids, a specialty toy retailer.
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets is a Mid-Atlantic supermarket company. It currently operates 154 stores in five Mid-Atlantic States: Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia. It also owns and operates SuperPetz, a pet supply superstore chain with 27 locations in nine states.
