Schnucks Brings eScrip Fundraising to Mid-Missouri

ST. LOUIS - Schnuck Markets Inc. here has launched a new eScrip Community Card for its stores in Columbia and Jefferson City, Mo., which the chain said yesterday "puts the fun back in fundraising."

Schnucks said every time a customer presents the eScrip Community Card at the checkout, it will give a percentage of the total grocery bill to the consumer's designated charity (school, church or non-profit youth group) based on purchases that customer would normally buy at Schnucks.

The family-held chain's Community Card is not a gift card, so there is no money required up front; nor is it a typical loyalty card, because consumers need not use the card to obtain discounts. Instead, customers need only present the card every time they shop to automatically earn money that is transferred monthly to the organizations of their choice.

Thus, said Larry Maggio, Schnucks director of marketing, each cardholder can earn funds for his or her favorite organizations without doing anything extra. "The meter starts and ends each month," said Maggio. "Our customers earn one percent for the first $300 in sales, two percent on the next $301-$600, and three percent on sales between $601-$999," notes Maggio.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi and Iowa.
