    Shaw’s Debuts Produce Sweepstakes

In-store campaign offers chances to win prizes during baseball season

Shaw’s Supermarkets has launched the From Farm Field to Ball Field Sweepstakes as part of its ongoing partnership with the Red Sox Radio Network and WEEI. The in-store produce campaign will provide the New England chain’s customers the opportunity to win prizes throughout the baseball season.

Showcasing the high-quality fresh produce at Shaw’s, the promotion highlights a different item each week of the season. Shaw’s Rewards Card members who buy the featured produce item of the week receive automatic entry into the sweepstakes, with a chance to watch their local baseball team play and to win the “experience of the week.” Every week during the season, shoppers could win such prizes as the chance for a child to be a junior broadcaster with Red Sox announcer Joe Castiglione at Fenway Park, a recording by Joe Castiglione to use as the winner’s new voice mail; and a chance to be a Red Sox Radio Network Scorekeeper of a game.

“Shaw’s regional footprint and importance within the lives of New Englanders mirrors what we offer on WEEI and the Red Sox Radio,” said Julie Kahn, VP/market manager at Boston-based Entercom New England, one of the nation’s largest radio broadcasters. “It’s a commitment to our communities and to the people who live there.”

“Continuing this relationship with WEEI and the Red Sox Radio Network is a natural fit for us, and one that is very exciting for our customers,” noted Larry Wahlstrom, president of East Bridgewater, Mass.-based Shaw’s, a banner of Supervalu in Minneapolis, which also owns the Osco and Star Market chains. “We also think it’s important to help get people eating more fresh produce, and what better way to do that than by tapping into the passion of Red Sox fans by offering a chance to win some great prizes every week?”

The contest, which runs through Sept. 29, is open only to legal residents of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Rhode Island who are 18 years of age and older at time of entry.
