ShopRite, MyWebGrocer iPhone App

ShopRite and MyWebGrocer this month rolled out an Apple iPhone and iPod Touch application (app) that functions as a portable weekly circular that delivers weekly grocery specials to users of Apple mobile devices.

Called ShopRite Weekly Specials, the app is available as a free download from Apple’s iTunes App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shoprite-weekly-specials/id335996545?mt=8

“This new app not only helps our customers save money, but more important, it [also] makes their lives a little bit easier,” noted Cheryl Williams, SVP of ShopRite, the banner under which members of Edison, N.J.-based cooperative Wakefern Food Corp. operate their stores. “We want to do everything we can to enhance the customer experience at ShopRite, and the iPhone app is a mobile extension of those efforts. Working with an innovator like MyWebGrocer is a big part of retaining our current customers and acquiring new ones.”

The app enables consumers to browse hundreds of items to see what’s on sale in real time at their regular ShopRite store. Once they choose an item, it’s added to their shopping list, which is organized by category with pictures, descriptions and real-time prices. The app syncs and downloads store specials directly to an iPhone or iPod Touch, and can even sync with customers’ shopping lists at ShopRite.com.

“This new app represents a logical and natural progression of our partnership with ShopRite, taking traditional shopping tools and evolving them to the digital space,” added Rich Tarrant, CEO of Colchester, Vt.-based MyWebGrocer.
