Southern Family Markets Names Ahold Vet President
Southern Family Markets, which acquired the assets of the bankrupt Bruno’s grocery chain last year, has named Max T. Henderson to the newly created position of president. In his new role, Henderson will oversee all of the food store banners Southern Family operates in four states.
Henderson spent most of his 28-year retailing career at chain Ahold. His most recent position there was EVP and general manager of Tops Markets, LLC, which is no longer owned the Amsterdam-based retail conglomerate. Ahold once owned Bruno’s as well. After leaving Ahold, Henderson worked as a consultant to the supermarket industry, including at Southern Family.
An affiliate of C&S Wholesale Grocers in Keene, N.H., Birmingham, Ala.-based Southern Family operates the Bruno’s, Food World, Piggly Wiggly, Southern Family Markets and SFM Liquor Stores chains.
