Spartan to Enhance Scan-Based Trading Efforts With New Sales Tool

Spartan Stores Inc., a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based grocery retailer and wholesaler plans to deploy a new sales optimization application in support of its scan-based trading initiative.

The grocer will implement Park City Group’s Consumer Driven Sales Optimization platform, which was developed to help retailers capture, manage, analyze and share critical data along the supply chain, to enhance visibility.

“Consumer Driven Sales Optimization and scan-based trading will be an important tool to support our strategic business plan and business goals,” noted Alan Hartline, EVP merchandising and marketing for Spartan.

Spartan needed a scan-based trading solution to improve working capital and eliminate inventory fluctuations at financial period ends. The company was also searching for a solution that could reduce shrink by category/vendor through a shrink-sharing program.

The retailer will also employ Utah-based Park City’s operational insights solution for shrink visibility by vendor, store and product, as well as by user-defined attributes such as department and management structure, to help identify the root causes of shrink.
