    Spartan Stores Offering Pet Insurance

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Spartan Stores based here has signed on with Jeffersonville, Ind.-based PetFirst Healthcare to offer pet insurance on shelves and at the checkout lanes in its grocery stores throughout Michigan.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Spartan Stores based here has signed on with Jeffersonville, Ind.-based PetFirst Healthcare to offer pet insurance on shelves and at the checkout lanes in its grocery stores throughout Michigan.

    The nation's tenth largest grocery distributor is offering pet insurance at 35 of its Family Fare and D&W Fresh Market locations. It is the second major retail partner for PetFirst, which launched a pet insurance program through Kroger, the nation's largest traditional grocery chain with 2,500 stores.

    PetFirst will reimburse up to 90 percent of a pet owner's veterinary expenses, including routine care such as annual exams, vaccinations, flea control and spay/neuter services, as well as surgeries, x-rays or hospitalization that result from illness or injury.
