Stater Bros. Launches Charitable Arm

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Regional independent Stater Bros. Markets yesterday launched Stater Bros. Charities, a non-profit organization developed to support charitable organizations in the communities served by the retailer.

For its first fundraiser the group will team up with PGA Champions Tour Pro Dave Stockton for a charity golf tournament.

Stater Bros. chairman and c.e.o. Jack Brown and Stockton created the tournament – named “Stater Bros. Presents: Dave Stockton’s Heroes With Hearts Challenge” – to give back to the Inland Empire communities in which both were born and raised. Both Brown and Stockton were born and raised in San Bernardino.

The tournament will take place Monday, March 3rd at Redlands Country Club, and the field will be limited to 128 players who will compete for 1st, 2nd, 3rd , 4th, and last place. “The fact that you would take part in this event to raise money for local charities makes you a winner in my book,” said Stockton. “That’s why I like to give a nice last place award.”

The event will include several of Stockton’s PGA Tour friends, and will benefit four Inland Empire Charities: Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of the Inland Empire, VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, Operation SafeHouse, and The Unforgettables Foundation.

In addition, Brown and Stockton have invited six Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients to participate in a weekend of events, one of which will include a visit to the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial V.A. Hospital, where Stockton will hold a golf clinic for veterans and patients.

Stater Bros. operates 164 Supermarkets, and employs 18,000 associates.
