Stater Bros. Opens 2nd Cathedral City Store, Completes Four Remodels

The store is the grocer's seventh to serve the Coachella Valley market.

Stater Bros. Markets this morning opened its newest supermarket, at the Plaza Rio Vista Shopping Center in Cathedral City, Calif., and completed major remodels at four of the its existing Coachella Valley supermarkets.

The Cathedral City supermarket is the grocer's seventh store in the Coachella Valley and the second in Cathedral City.

"Our newest Stater Bros. Supermarket as well as our four newly remodeled supermarkets will better serve our long time customers in and around the Coachella Valley," said Jack H. Brown, chairman and c.e.o. of the San Bernardino-based regional independent.

Stater Bros. said the 44,000-square-foot store will feature:
    - A full service meat department offering a selection of U.S.D.A. Select Meat, Harris Ranch Premium All-Natural U.S.D.A. Choice Black Angus Beef, and U.S.D.A. Prime beef (upon request)
    - A full-service seafood department.
    - A full-service delicatessen offering fresh salads, premium deli meats, a variety of domestic and imported cheeses, and meals-to-go.
    - A full-service hot bakery featuring scratch-baked La Brea Artisan breads and rolls, desserts, premium ice cream cakes, and custom-made decorated cakes for all occasions including picture cakes.
    - A full-service floral department offering fresh-cut flowers, bouquets, arrangements, potted plants, and home décor items.
    - A produce department with more than 800 items and expanded organic selections.

The grocer factored sustainability into the design of the new store; it will use an energy efficient refrigeration system that reduces carbon dioxide emissions, the equivalent of removing more than 250 automobiles off the road for one year, according to Stater Bros. Also, energy efficient skylights to incorporate the use of natural day lighting and reduce energy consumption.

Stater Bros.' four completed remodels - each of which remained open -- are in Cathedral City, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and Palm Springs. Each department in these stores has been modified to offer a greater variety of products and more services, the chain said.

Stater Bros. operates 165 supermarkets, and has more than 18,000 associates.
