    Stop & Shop Upgrades on Cape Cod

    Replacement store will cater to year-round residents, vacationers

    The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC has opened a 65,000-square-foot store in Hyannis, Mass., to replace an existing location a quarter- mile away. The new store will provide Cape Cod residents and vacationers alike with an expanded food selection, including a full-service meat and seafood department and more offerings in deli, fresh produce, and natural and organic goods.

    Among the location’s additional features are the latest green technology relating to energy, recycling and water consumption (the site will be LEED certified); the rollout of Stop & Shop’s grocery mobile app, SCAN IT! Mobile; a Citizens Bank branch; and an in-store pharmacy.

    In celebration of the grand opening, Stop & Shop’s scheduled special offers and activities over the weekend included enabling the first 500 customers to exchange their cards from other supermarkets for a Stop & Shop card receive a $5 Stop & Shop gift card; providing customers with the opportunity to tour designated areas of the store, sample food and collect stamps along the way, under the “Passport Program,” which gives a free reusable bag (while supplies last) to shoppers who visit five areas; giving away $1,000 worth of prizes through its “Brands Patrol!” program to customers who purchase Nature’s Promise and Stop & Shop brand products; and welcoming Pat Patriot, mascot of the New England Patriots, in a special appearance on Sunday, July 29

    Additionally, aided by its customers, Stop & Shop will support the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Hyannis Harbor Hawks (upper left) with a $1 donation, up to $1,000, for every check-in on Foursquare.

    “Hyannis is a unique community we feel strongly about, not only because there are so many residents and vacationers [who] live and visit this area, but also because of partnerships we have made with several local organizations, including the First Baptist Church food pantry and the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Hyannis Harbor Hawks,” said Joe Kelley, president, Stop & Shop New England Division.

    A division of Ahold USA, Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop employs about 62,000 associates and operates more than 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey.
