As a convenience for on-the-go customers, Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover have introduced their first mobile application for iPhone and Android devices. Shoppers can download the free application at the App Store or Android Market.
“It’s all about customer choice,” noted Mark McGowan, division president of Stop & Shop New England. “Our goal is to give our shoppers options, and for those who enjoy technology, we think they will enjoy our new mobile application.” McGowan added that the Ahold USA division “will be rolling out new and innovative features in the months ahead.”
"With mobile applications gaining popularity, Giant is committed to keeping up with the latest technology," added Jamie Miller, public and community relations manager for Giant-Landover.
The app syncs with customer loyalty cards, giving customers access to their online accounts, among them accumulated Gas Rewards points, A+ School Rewards and personalized savings. Shoppers can also view store circulars on their hand-held devices and get directions to the nearest Stop & Shop.
The divisions of Quincy, mass.-based Ahold USA plan to add features to the app and conduct consumer testing to ensure that the offering meets customers' grocery technology needs.
“Over the last decade, we’ve introduced self-checkout aisles, deli kiosks, Weigh-It! scales and hand-held Scan-It! devices in an effort to take advantage of emerging trends to make grocery shopping easier,” said Ron Onorato, division president of Stop & Shop New York Metro. “Our new mobile application is an extension of this customer promise and just the beginning of our new digital offerings.”
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., based in Quincy, employs almost 62,000 associates and operates more than 390 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey. Landover, Md.-based Giant Food LLC operates 178 stores in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and employs about 22,000 associates.
