Sunflower Farmers Market Boosts Real Estate Team to Chase Growth

BOULDER, Colo. - Natural and organic foods retailer Sunflower Farmer's Market here yesterday said it had added Kim D. Sims as director of real estate, to help drive an expansion scheme to include six to eight store openings per year, in new markets as well as existing ones.

With more than 12 years of experience in retail real estate, Sims will manage all the natural grocer's real estate endeavors, ranging from site selection to store openings, Sunflower said.

"Kim has a proven track record of success in her field and comes with outstanding recommendations," Mike Gilliland, founder and owner of Sunflower Farmers Markets told Progressive Grocer. "Her skill set will be instrumental in achieving Sunflower's aggressive growth plans throughout the Southwest."

Sunflower has already signed seven site leases in Colorado and Utah. In Colorado, stores are slated to open in Greeley, Boulder, Arvada, Littleton, and Aurora. In Utah, Sunflower is launching its natural-food supermarket chain into Murray and Orem. The new locations in both states will be in full operation by fall 2008, the chain said.

It said it is also looking at store locations in California.

Sunflower Farmers Markets operates 13 stores in Denver and Fort Collins, Colo.; Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, and Tucson, Ariz. and Las Vegas, Nev. It plans to expand to Texas and Utah.
