Sunflower Farmers Market Expands in California

Natural and organic foods retailer Sunflower Farmers Market, will open its second store in the California market this October in Modesto and will be the first major natural and organic grocer to serve the community.

“We entered the California market this year with our Roseville store in May, and are the first to bring affordable, high-quality, natural and organic groceries to Modesto,” said Sunflower CEO, Chris Sherrell. “We plan to continue growth of our unique grocery store concept throughout California.”

Sunflower Farmers Market currently has 33 stores throughout six Southwestern states. The store’s first California store, in Roseville, will open its doors in four weeks on May 11. Like its sister California store, the Modesto location is expected to boost the local economy by bringing at least 100 jobs to the area. The new Modesto location will continue the Sunflower concept by offering fresh local produce, all-natural meats and seafood, a large bulk selection, plus natural living health and wellness products, all at the lowest possible prices.

In addition, the new store will also continue Sunflower’s commitment to eco-friendly practices and initiatives. The market utilizes energy efficient light fixtures and occupancy sensors, recycled and refurbished equipment, cases and fixtures, and water-saving devices like sensor operated sinks and a hot water reclaim tank.

Boulder, Colo.-based Sunflower Farmers operates 33 retail stores located throughout Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Texas.
