Sunflower Farmers Markets to Install POS with Green Appeal

Sunflower Farmers Markets said it is installing a new point-of-sale (POS) solution throughout its retail portfolio featuring two-sided receipt printing in an effort to extend its sustainability initiatives into its technology initiatives.

The grocer is working with NCR RealPartner Southwest Point of Sale, which is handling installation and will provide maintenance of the solution.

“NCR two-sided receipt printing supports our green initiatives by helping us reduce waste and energy consumption,” said Colein Whicher, marketing director for Sunflower, “while also providing us with an efficient POS printing solution.”

The patented NCR Two-Sided Thermal Receipt Printing allows simultaneous printing on both sides of a thermal paper receipt, reducing paper consumption by up to 40 percent, according to NCR.

The Sunflower deployment will also include the NCR RealPOS 80 workstation, NCR RealScan 78 OFX bi-optic scanner/scale, and NCR Systemedia two-sided thermal receipt paper rolls.

The installation is already in progress, and will extend over the next five years, with the new NCR technology deployed in approximately eight lanes at each store.

Sunflower Farmers Markets operates 14 stores in Denver; Fort Collins, Colo.; Boulder, Colo.; Phoenix; Tempe, Ariz.; Scottsdale, Ariz.; Tucson, Ariz.; Las Vegas; and Albuquerque, N.M., with expansion plans for Texas and Utah.
