Supervalu Inc. plans to consolidate its Xenia, Ohio, distribution center into a larger facility based in Fort Wayne, Ind., in an effort to “improve operating efficiency and better position the company for strategic growth.”
Expected to be completed by the end of September, the move takes advantage of excess capacity at the 640,000-square-foot Fort Wayne center. Supervalu will be working with the 120 affected associates and their union representatives to discuss the details of the consolidation and ensure a smooth transition.
Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc. operates a network of 4,300 stores composed of 1,102 traditional retail stores, including 797 in-store pharmacies; 1,332 hard-discount stores, of which 935 are operated by licensee owners; and 1,900 independent stores serviced primarily by the company's traditional food distribution business.
