Supervalu Diverting 180 IT Jobs to India

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Supervalu Inc. based here is transferring some 180 information technology jobs - including some that were based in Boise, Idaho - to India. The company notified affected workers earlier this week after conducting an assessment of work functions within its IT technical services group to determine how its India-based associates can complete some of the critical work performed within the group.

Haley Meyer, Supervalu spokeswoman, said: "This assessment identified opportunities to gain efficiencies, and, following careful evaluation, several functions within this group will transition work to India."

As Supervalu is a Fortune 50 company, Meyer said, "A multi-geographic work force must be part of our strategy for us to succeed in today's competitive marketplace."

Meyer said employees will be able to apply for other jobs within the company, while severance and job-search assistance programs will be offered to workers that will be laid-off. The transition is expected to take roughly 20 months to complete.
