Supervalu Ups Sue Klug to So Cal Div. Prez

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Sue Klug, s.v.p./sales and marketing for Supervalu's Retail West region has been elevated to president of the company's Southern California division.

Pete Van Helden, who had held the dual titles of Southern California division president in addition to e.v.p./Retail West since May 2006, will now concentrate solely on overseeing responsibilities for the latter.

"Sue is a talented executive who has been a real catalyst for change at Albertsons and now Supervalu," said Jeff Noddle, Supervalu's chairman and c.e.o.. "With her broad industry experience and tremendous vision, I am confident that Sue will continue to help lead our company to new heights."

A 29-year veteran of the industry, Klug most recently served as s.v.p./sales and marketing for Retail West, where she focused on marketing for the Southern California and Intermountain West divisions, and merchandising for the Southern California division.

During her tenure, she developed and launched a number of important initiatives, including the launch of "3's A Crowd," a former Lucky program that she rolled out across the division, as well as the introduction of a number of major customer promotions. In addition, Klug was responsible for the re-launch of the Lucky brand in the Southern California market.

Klug previously served as s.v.p./sales and merchandising for Albertsons' California Division prior to its acquisition by Supervalu, as well as s.v.p./sales and merchandising for Lucky Stores. She has also held senior-level positions at Safeway in grocery buying, computer programming, marketing and strategic planning, including director of marketing for Pavilions and s.v.p./marketing for Vons. Klug also worked for Catalina Marketing as the senior director of retail business development, v.p./frequency marketing, and v.p./Western United States.
