T&A Living Lettuce Packaging to Offer Earth Day Message

In celebration of Earth Day, Tanimura & Antle (T&A) will remind shoppers during the month of April to “be a part of the solution” by choosing the Salinas, Calif.-based grower’s hydroponically grown Living Lettuce.

Sporting a newly designed Earth Day label, eco-friendly Living Lettuce is grown through regenerative farming and employs sustainable growing practices. The lettuce is grown in custom-designed hydroponic greenhouses using natural energy and a minimal amount of water, thereby reducing dependency on limited resources.

“The Earth Day packaging offers a subtle message to consumers that we hope will encourage consideration of the environment when making produce purchase decisions, “ said T&A CEO Rick Antle. “Our hydroponic growing facility was built in Livingston, Tenn., not only for optimal climate conditions, proximity to major markets, energy efficiency, ergonomic growing and harvest operations, and year-round production, but also to meet quality control and high food safety standards. These are all positive processes that collectively and independently support and sustain our workforce, consumers and the environment.”

Available year-round, Living Lettuce is harvested with its roots intact, which means that the item has a longer shelf life than conventionally harvested butter lettuces and so cuts down on waste, according to the grower.

One of the largest hydroponic lettuce producers in the United States, T&A has been growing hydroponic Living Lettuce in Livingston since August 2008.
