Tanimura & Antle Present Peri-Peri Peppadrops

Tanimura & Antle newest Peri-Peri Peppadrops were met with an “overwhelmingly positive response” from chefs and buyers in attendance at the recent Produce Marketing Association’s (PMA) foodservice conference in Monterey, Calif., according to officials for the Salinas, Calif.-based company. The cherry tomato-sized red peppers are pickled with the Peri Peri (Piri Piri) spice, native to Africa by way of Portugal and Barbados. The brine is spiced with Peri-Peri, which is a key contributor to the spicy sweet flavor. The inspiration for the product launch came about as a result of a popular restaurant in Laguna Beach, Calif. – Mozambique – which features foods of its geographic namesake for which Peri Peri is a staple ingredient, as well as the rise of ethnic flavors in mainstream in dining.

“Not too sweet and not too spicy, these little peppers are terrific in salads, salsas and dressings too,” said Rick Antle, CEO of Tanimura & Antle, who adds that his sales team is actively distributing the item for both retail and foodservice. The new peppadrops will also be featured at the PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim in October.
