Tesco to Install Tamper-Resistant Trailer Seals on 4,000-Truck Fleet

U.K. grocer Tesco plans to install tamper-evident trailer seals to strengthen the security of the products it transports via its 4,000-trailer fleet.

The retailer is using Enfield, England-based OEM Group’s Secureseal solution, which will replace electronic seals for all new-build trailers, and also replace faulty electronic seals in order to achieve optimum levels of security sealing.

“Failure rate and replacement delays of the existing electronic seal were putting our high standard of security sealing at risk,” said Cliff Smith, Tesco’s fleet engineering manager. “Secureseal offers a more reliable, better-value and longer-term solution that will improve the security of goods in transit.”

Secureseal is a permanent reusable seal with a unique random security-number generator that monitors unauthorized door openings. These stainless steel devices were developed to provide a maintenance-free life exceeding eight years. And since the seals are reuseable, they’re consistent with Tesco’s Green Policy.
