Tesco Taps CA Technologies to Manage Enterprise-Wide IT

U.K. grocer Tesco tapped Islandia, N.Y.-based IT management software and solutions company CA Technologies to manage and monitor its global IT infrastructure across the entire Tesco Group, including Tesco Bank, Tesco DotCom, and Tesco Mobile.

The $45 million deal involves a number of CA Technologies solutions being implemented to give Tesco visibility into the health and performance of its IT supply chain, including mainframe, desktop computers, servers, networks, credit card transactions, suppliers and supply orders. The investment will help Tesco to take action before any IT problems evolve and affect services to customers.

"Our systems infrastructure needs to work for our IT team in order to do their job for our customers, our colleagues and our suppliers,” said Mike McNamara, CIO, Tesco. “We rely on CA Technologies software to tame a very big, distributed, heterogeneous infrastructure. We are very pleased to extend our long-standing relationship with CA Technologies into a third decade."

With 472,000 staff working in over 5,000 stores across 14 countries, monitoring Tesco's IT infrastructure is both time-consuming and complex. Having previously used a number of different solutions from a range of vendors, Tesco selected CA Technologies IT management solutions to consolidate its IT infrastructure, while providing customers a consistent service experience. Solutions deployed include CA Service Operations Insight (formerly CA Spectrum Service Assurance), CA SYSVIEW Performance Management and CA Process Automation.

"We have been a strategic IT partner to Tesco for the past 20 years and are further developing our relationship with this new investment,” said Colin Bannister, CTO and VP of technical sales for UK and Ireland, CA Technologies. “The longevity of this partnership demonstrates that our solutions have a proven track record of successfully solving Tesco's IT infrastructure problems, helping the brand to do more with less, become more agile, enhance customer satisfaction and ultimately create a more profitable business."

Tesco also uses CA ecoSoftware to help increase the efficiency, speed and accuracy of its carbon accounting process, enabling the company to more effectively track progress in pursuit of its ambitious carbon reduction goals. With the CA Technologies solution, Tesco can monitor its global footprint across a range of activities including IT, stores, refrigeration, distribution, waste and sourcing, using reports to help assess and lower this on an annual basis.
