Food Lion associates and customers raised a record $101,149 during the Salisbury, N.C.-based chain’s “Thriller on the Griller at the Beach” events, which benefit Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals, which raises funds for more than 170 children's hospitals across North America.. The events were held from June 17 through July 3 at 14 Food Lion stores along the North Carolina and South Carolina coasts.

“We at Food Lion appreciate the community's generosity this year at our events," said Joe Stock, director of operations at Food Lion and organizer of the campaign. "We had a record year and surpassed our goal by nearly $15,000.”

Funds raised will provide families with a range of assistance, including help with buying hospital medical equipment or other needs as identified by CMN Hospitals in North Carolina and South Carolina. Since the events began decade ago, they’ve have raised more than $400,000.

The Food Lion family of supermarkets, owned by Brussels-based retail conglomerate Delhaize Group, operates more than 1,200 supermarkets, either directly or through affiliated entities, under the Food Lion, Harveys or Reid’s banners, employs about 62,500 associates in 11 Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
