Giant-Landover Shoppers Can Redeem Coins for No-fee Gift Cards

PrintGiant-Landover Shoppers Can Redeem Coins for No-fee Gift Cards

Customers using Coinstar kiosks at all Giant Food LLC stores are now able to place the full value of their coins, without fees, onto a Giant Food gift card. Available from a range of national retailers and e-retailers, the gift cards are immediately activated and ready to use the same day.

“Every day at Giant, we strive to offer our customers the highest levels of quality, value and service, and offering convenience is an important factor in that equation,” noted Anthony Hucker, president of the Landover, Md.-based grocery chain, an Ahold USA division that operates 171 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and employs about 22,000 associates. “Coinstar kiosks are a popular destination in our neighborhood stores.”

“We’ve based our business on finding solutions to the ongoing economic challenges facing both retailers and consumers, and believe that the retailer gift card option stands out as a game-changer in the industry,” added Mike Skinner, president of Coinstar’s coin business. “The latest among our broad range of no-fee offerings, the retailer card product guarantees greater consumer flexibility.”

Giant is among the first grocery retailers to offer the fee-free option for customers redeeming coins, according to the Bellevue, Wash.-based provider of self-service coin-counting services.
