Frieda’s Rolls Out Pine Nut Display Shipper

PrintFrieda’s Rolls Out Pine Nut Display Shipper

Frieda’s Inc. is introducing a pine nut shipper for use in supermarket produce departments. The free-standing display is pre-stocked and easy to assemble, with an eye-catching look designed to boost retailers’ pine nut sales.

“When we first introduced pine nuts (we called them by their proper name, pignolias), home cooks wrote us thank-you notes,” noted Karen Caplan, CEO of Los Alamitos, Calif.-based Frieda’s, which brought pine nuts to U.S. supermarkets more than 20 years ago. “They were so happy to finally be able to find this important pesto ingredient in their produce department. Now, with this shipper, retailers can make it easier for consumers to find and use pine nuts.”

The newly designed shipper holds 48 3-ounce clamshell tubs of pine nuts and includes a recipe tearpad with two simple usage ideas. Frieda’s recommends that retailers merchandise the shipper next to fresh tomatoes and basil to inspire shoppers. It can also be used as a secondary display in non-produce sections.

In addition to the shipper, the 3-ounce clamshell is new for Frieda’s. The convenient container is also resealable, making it easier for consumers to keep the contents fresh. Frieda’s also distributes a 3-ounce pine nut bag with a header card, which has proved to be a top seller.

Founded in 1962 by Frieda Caplan, Frieda’s was the first wholesale produce company in the United States to be founded, owned and operated by a woman, and is still a family- and women-owned business today. The company has introduced more than 200 specialty items to U.S. produce departments, including kiwifruit, spaghetti squash, habanero peppers and black garlic.
