Sam’s Club rang in the new year with five free health screenings held Saturday, Jan. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all locations with a pharmacy. The in-club tests, valued at up to $100, included screenings for blood glucose, total cholesterol , blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and vision (the last only available at clubs with an optical center).

“The start of a new year provides a perfect opportunity to reflect on the personal changes we want to make and to commit to a healthier lifestyle,” noted Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “By offering free health and vision screenings now, Sam’s Club will help our communities assess the current status of their health and set realistic goals for 2013 and beyond.”

With more than 2.2 million free health-and-wellness screenings provided in its U.S. locations since 2011, Sam’s Club, a division of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., will continue provide free screenings every second Saturday of the month through October 2013.

In related news, the chain’s 563 pharmacies now offer the SoloHealth Station, an interactive kiosk that provides screenings for vision, blood pressure, weight, and body mass index; a symptom checker; and an overall health assessment, all free of charge.

Sam’s Club also offers New Year’s health tips in the January/February 2013 issue of its Healthy Living Made Simple Magazine. According to the retailer, the publication, which can also be found online, boasts the highest circulation of any health-focused publication, at 8 million.

Sam’s Club serves more than 47 million members in clubs across the United States, as well as in Brazil, China and Mexico.
