Giant-Landover Buys 2 Baltimore-area Fresh & Green’s Supermarkets

PrintGiant-Landover Buys 2 Baltimore-area Fresh & Green’s Supermarkets

Giant Food LLC of Landover, Md., has struck a deal with Scarsdale, N.Y.-based Mrs. Green’s Management Corp. to purchase two of the company’s Fresh & Green’s supermarkets in the Baltimore market. The stores are at 1020 West 41st Street in Baltimore and 7709 Harford Road in Parkville.

When the sale closes, the stores will temporarily close to undergo renovation and conversion to the Giant banner. Once the stores have reopened, the West 41st Street location will replace the Rotunda Giant in the Rotunda shopping center at 711 West 40th Street. Giant, a division of Ahold USA, will reveal further details regarding the store conversions after the sale is finalized.

About 125 associates now work at the two Fresh & Green’s locations. All associates will be offered employment opportunities with Giant Food. The chain and Mrs. Green’s Management Corp. will work together to ensure a smooth transition for customers and associates. Additionally, all current Rotunda Giant associates will continue to be employed by Giant.

“All of our remaining stores in Maryland have -- and will continue to operate -- with a renewed emphasis on improving the overall shopping experience,” noted Matt Williams, CEO of Fresh & Green’s in Maryland, which currently has five other locations in the state and one in Washington. “As we look ahead, we will continue to grow our presence, create jobs and invest further in the region to serve more Maryland families.”

For the convenience of customers affected by the Fresh and Green’s store closings during the renovations, Giant has compiled a list of stores less than 5 miles from those locations.

Giant operates 173 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and employs about 22,000 associates.
